Gold medalist Linlin Sun

The Event

The 2025 Western States ST Technical Training Summer Camp, followed by the Annual Western States Regional Championships, will be held at The Cube - Ice and Entertainment Center’s Olympic rink (set up by the same installer of the Oval’s Ice) in Santa Clarita, California, from June 26 to 28, 2025. Two camp days will precede a day of photo-finishing enhanced racing on our Olympic sized track on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

The Coach

Linlin Sun, a world-famous 2010 Olympic Gold medalist and the current Utah Olympic Oval Speed Skating Outreach & Development Coordinator, will again be returning to be the Camp Leader this year. She is a USS Level 3 Certified Coach and has been running successful summer camps and developing short track programs in both the US and China since 2012.

Since becoming a founding coach for GSS and starting their highly acclaimed international camps in 2014, she has been instrumental in developing the tremendous success of ST speed skating in the NJ/NY metro area. Linlin is now sharing her expertise to help build a similar success story on the West Coast.

Previously, Linlin was the USS Junior World Team Head Coach (2017-2019), an Assistant Coach for US athletes competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Utah Oval’s F.A.S.T Team Head Coach (2015-2019), the USS ST Program Director (2018-2019), the Chinese National Speedskating Team Manager (2019-2020), and the recipient of numerous awards in China, including of the 2010 Chinese Athletic Honor Medal, Chinese Outstanding Youth Medal, Honorary Title of The Excellent Model for Chinese Women Award, and Model Worker of Heilongjiang Providence in China Award.

The Focus

The three-day event will focus on the technical skills of ST speed skating, including track and racing strategies, which will be sharpened in the two-day camp and applied on day three in the age/ability-based Western States Championships.

The camp is open to all skaters, ages 6 to adult masters. Linlin has exceptional experience organizing with her assistant coaches to focus on and develop each skater’s abilities, from novice to elite skaters.

All local, national and international skaters are invited to come and train on the West Coast with Linlin, sharpen your state-of-the-sport speed skating skills in our post-camp competition, and then hit the surf at our fabulous Southern California summer beaches for some authentic California fun in the sun with Linlin Sun.
