Instructions for attending a session for the first time

We welcome adults and children of all ages with some skating background, casual to competitor, who want to try the short track. Your first skate is free!

We invite you to simply drop in and watch one of our practice sessions and meet the frienly skaters and coaches.

  1. Some skating experience required for speed skating—minimal background in figure skating, hockey, dryland, roller, or just public sessions is enough to help you decide if speed skating is for you.
  2. Skating in your own hockey or rental skates from the rink is acceptable. Figure skates are not allowed.
  3. Please email us your shoe size (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or submit our general inquiry form before coming so we can prepare to provide you with free, properly fitted loaner speed skates (available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
  4. Arrive at the rink 30 minutes early for a quick introduction and equipment fitting. On-ice practice starts at 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays.
  5. Wear long sleeves and comfortable long pants, sweat pants, or similar. If you have a skinsuit, wear that.
  6. Bring snug-fitting gloves (baseball or soccer-type gloves will do), and  a helmet if you have one (bicycle helmets are OK.)
  7. Let coaches know your skating background, even if it's just public sessions for fun.
  8. Stay hydrated! A sports water bottle is good to keep handy during practice (no glass bottles.)
  9. Before you purchase speed skates, inquire with the group for advice.
  10. Submit the online Speed Skating Waiver (required.) You may also fill out a printed version during your fist visit, or download, print, and fillout PDF version:
